Mountain Ravine, eastern face of Hurricane Mountain, 86in. x 204in., oil on canvas, 2000
Preparing a wilderness-inspired mural commission for a new contemporary Great Camp on Lake George, I spent three weeks trekking the High Peaks area of the Adirondack Mountains in search of covert and upland viewpoints worthy of attention. Making sketches toward a final proposal, the experience of working among elaborate and nearly unblemished natural settings became part of the conceptual foundation leading to realization---the immersion of experiential discoveries in wild landscape, with painting.
